Team habit tracker

A free team habit tracker for small teams: shared routines, recurring jobs given to one person, and wellbeing challenges where everyone keeps their own streak.

Updated

A team habit tracker is a shared list of the routines a team repeats — the weekly report, watering the office plants, the Monday check-in — each with one owner and a schedule, so everyone can see what's been done without asking. It can also run the team's own habits, like a step challenge, where everyone keeps their own streak.

Most teams already track their projects carefully. The small recurring jobs fall through the gaps between project tools, calendar invites and someone's memory. A lightweight shared tracker is often all it takes to catch them.

What a team should track

Recurring jobs with one owner

The work that repeats and belongs to someone: send the weekly numbers on Friday, check the shared inbox each morning, renew the domain once a year. Give each one an owner and a schedule, and the streak shows whether it's being kept up.

Shared routines, whoever does them

Jobs that matter but don't need an owner: restock the coffee, empty the fridge on Friday, water the plants. Whoever gets there first ticks it off, and the rest of the team can see it's done.

Habits everyone does on their own

A walking challenge, a no-meetings-before-10 morning, ten minutes of learning a day. Everyone does the same habit, ticks their own, and keeps their own streak. It's a gentle team ritual that doesn't need a spreadsheet of who did what.

What it suits — and what it doesn't

A team habit tracker works best for:

  • Small teams — a startup, a studio, a shop, a volunteer group, a club committee.
  • Recurring operations: rotas, weekly reports, opening and closing routines, monthly admin.
  • Wellbeing and learning challenges, where the point is everyone doing a little each day.

It's not a replacement for a project management tool. If you need boards, dependencies, time tracking or comment threads, keep your project tool for that — and use the habit tracker for the repeating work it doesn't handle well.

Team routines worth tracking

  • Weekly update sent — one person, every Friday.
  • Shared inbox cleared — one person each weekday, or rotated weekly.
  • Monday planning — a shared habit, ticked by whoever runs it.
  • Office plants watered — anyone, twice a week.
  • Invoices sent — one person, on the 1st of the month.
  • 10-minute walk at lunch — everyone, each with their own streak. See building a walking habit.
  • Read for 20 minutes — a team learning habit, everyone separately. More on reading every day.

Keep it light

  • Track the routine, not the person. A tracker is for making sure things happen, not for performance reviews.
  • Make challenges opt-in. A step challenge that someone was signed up to is a chore.
  • Keep the list short. Ten well-chosen routines beat fifty that nobody reads.
  • Rotate the dull ones. Reassign the weekly chore each month so it's nobody's forever.

How it works in Crek

Crek is a free habit tracker with a to-do list and notes. A team uses it through a group.

  1. Make a group for the team.
  2. Add your teammates by their Crek usernames. Each person sees an invite and joins.
  3. Add the routines and habits. Choose who each is for: one person (only they tick it), Anyone (whoever does it), or — for a habit — Everyone, so each person keeps their own streak.
  4. Each person opens Today. What's theirs from the team appears beside their own habits and todos, so there's one list to check each morning.

Worth knowing:

  • Routines repeat on a schedule — every day, on the weekdays you choose, or once a month — and the streak only counts the days each was due.
  • One-off jobs are todos, with an optional due date and priority, given to one person or left for anyone.
  • Anyone in the group can add and edit its habits and todos. The person who made the group adds and removes people, renames it, or deletes it.
  • Personal lists stay personal. Only what's in the team group is shared; everyone's own habits, todos and notes stay private.
  • Free, with no per-seat pricing and no limit on how many people join.
  • Any device, no installs. It runs in the browser, so it works for the whole team without asking IT for anything.

Each person signs in with Google, so everyone needs a Google account — work or personal. What it doesn't do (yet): reminders, comments, or integrations with Slack or your calendar.

Start with one routine

Pick the recurring job that most often gets forgotten, give it an owner and a day, and put it in a group. Once the team is used to checking Today, add the next one — and maybe a lunchtime walk for everyone.

Questions

What is a team habit tracker?

A shared list of the things a team does again and again — weekly reports, the Friday clean-up, a step challenge — where each one has an owner and a schedule, and everyone can see what's done. Crek does this with a group.

Can I give a recurring task to one person on the team?

Yes. In a Crek group, a habit can repeat daily, on chosen weekdays, or monthly, and be given to one member. Only they can tick it, and the whole team sees whether it's done.

Can we run a team wellbeing challenge?

Yes. Add a habit like a daily walk and set it for Everyone: each person ticks their own day and keeps their own streak, without seeing anyone's personal list.

Is Crek a project management tool?

No. It has no boards, projects, comments or file sharing. It's for the small, repeating things a team does — routines and habits — alongside a simple shared to-do list.

How much does it cost for a team?

Nothing. Crek is free, with no per-seat pricing, no limit on group size and no paid tier.
