Questions

Everything you mightwant to ask.

Crek is a free to-do list and notes app that runs in your browser. No installs, no paid tier, and no setup before you can write the first thing down.

The basics

What is Crek?

Crek is a free to-do list and notes app that runs in your browser. You write down what you need to do, check things off, and keep notes alongside them.

It is deliberately minimal: there are no boards, no tags, no assignees and no projects to set up. A todo has a title, an optional description, a priority and an optional date — and that is the whole model.

Is Crek free?

Yes. Every feature is free, there is no paid tier, and there is nothing to upgrade to. You sign in with Google and start writing.

Do I need an account?

Yes — your todos and notes are saved to your account so they are there on your next visit and on any other device you sign in from. Signing in is one press: Crek uses Google sign-in, so there is no password to choose or remember.

Is Crek a good minimalist to-do app?

That is what it is built to be. Most task apps grow features until using them is itself a project; Crek keeps one list, one notebook and a small number of decisions per item.

The test it holds itself to: writing a todo should take one line and no configuration. If you want dependencies, sub-tasks, custom fields or a Kanban board, Crek is the wrong tool and will stay that way.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Crek runs in any modern browser on desktop, tablet and phone. There is nothing to download and nothing to keep updated.

Todos

Can I make a todo repeat?

Yes. A todo can repeat daily, weekly on the weekdays you choose, or monthly on a day of your choosing. A repeating todo comes back each period rather than being finished once.

Months that are too short use their last day, so a todo set for the 31st still happens in February.

Can I set due dates and priorities?

Both are optional. A todo can carry a due date and a priority of high, medium or low. Medium is the default and is left unsaid in the list, so the priorities you actually set are the ones you see.

What happens when I complete a todo?

A one-off todo moves to your Completed view. A repeating todo is marked done for the current period and returns in the next one, keeping its streak.

Completing anything can also earn you XP and habit points — see the progress section below.

Does Crek understand my timezone?

Yes. Repeating todos and daily streaks are worked out in your own timezone, not the server's, so a day ends when it ends for you.

What happens to a todo I delete?

It disappears from your list immediately. Deletes are recorded rather than wiped instantly, which is what makes it possible to recover from a mistake, but there is no undo button in the interface today.

Notes

What are notes for?

Anything a todo is the wrong shape for: a plan, a list of ideas, a journal entry, something you want to keep to hand. Notes live beside your todos rather than in a second app.

Can I format my notes?

Yes. Notes support bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, inline code, bulleted and numbered lists, quotes, code blocks and links. You can type Markdown shortcuts as you write — **bold**, a dash for a list, a backtick fence for code — or use the toolbar.

Can I keep my important notes together?

Star a note and it appears under Favorites. There are no folders or tags — for a personal notebook, a single starred set and the fact that the newest note is always first covers almost everything folders would.

XP, levels and streaks

How does the XP work?

You earn one XP the first time you complete anything on a given day. It is once a day on purpose: the point is to reward turning up, not to reward creating twenty trivial todos and ticking them all off.

Levels get harder as you climb. Going from level 1 to 2 costs 1 XP, level 2 to 3 costs 2, and so on — so reaching level 10 takes 45 XP in total.

What are habit points?

A small reward on every completion, not just the first of the day. Each one rolls 1 point most of the time, 2 occasionally, and 3 rarely — so there is a little luck in it.

Undoing a completion takes back exactly the points it gave, so nothing can be farmed by ticking and unticking.

How do streaks work?

A repeating todo counts a streak of consecutive periods you completed it in. A daily todo's streak counts days, a weekly one counts weeks. Miss a period and that streak starts again.

Is Crek a habit tracker?

It can be used as one. A repeating todo with a streak is a habit, and the XP and levels are there to make keeping one feel like it is going somewhere. But there are no charts, scores or dashboards to maintain — the gamification is deliberately quiet.

Sharing and privacy

Are my todos and notes private?

Yes. Your todos and notes are yours; nothing you write in them is shown on your public profile or anywhere else.

What is a public profile?

When you sign up you claim a username, and that gives you a page at crek.io/u/your-name showing your level and progress — not the contents of your todos or notes. Share the link or ignore it.

Can I keep my journey private?

Yes. Your journey — the record of what you have been building — can be flipped private, which takes it off the web and out of search results.
