What Crek keeps, and why.

Last updated

The short version

Crek keeps what you write so it can show it back to you on any device. It does not sell your data, show you ads, or share your habits, todos or notes with anyone — apart from the habits and todos you put in a group yourself, which the people in that group see.

Your public profile shows that you were active, never what you did.

What Crek collects

From Google, when you sign in: your name, email address and profile photo. Crek never sees your Google password.

What you write: your habits, todos and notes, when you complete them, and the settings you choose — your username, your avatar, your timezone and, if you turn reminders on, the time they come at.

Where you came from: the first time you visit, Crek remembers the page you landed on, the site that sent you and any campaign tags on the link (utm_source and friends). It is saved on your account when you sign up, so it can tell which posts actually bring people.

How the site is used: page views and clicks, through Google Analytics and PostHog (see below).

Voice and photo capture

When you speak a todo or photograph a list, the recording or photo is sent to Google's Gemini API, which turns it into a draft for you to review. Crek does not store the recording or the photo — only the todo or note you choose to save.

Google processes that request under its Gemini API terms.

Analytics

Crek uses Google Analytics and PostHog to count visits and see which parts of the site get used. The text on the page is masked before PostHog sees it, session recording is off, and ad-network click IDs are stripped from captured addresses.

When you are signed in, these events are tied to your account id so a visit can be followed across devices. They are never tied to what you wrote.

Cookies

A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in. A timezone cookie, so a day on Crek ends when yours does. A first-visit cookie (90 days), for the "where you came from" note above. And the cookies Google Analytics and PostHog set to tell one visit from the next.

What is public

Your profile at crek.io/u/your-username is public and can appear in search results. It shows your name, username, avatar, the date you joined, a few totals and a calendar of the days you were active. It never shows the names or contents of your habits, todos or notes. More in the FAQ.

Groups

A group is something you choose to share: its owner adds people by username, and each person joins or declines. Everyone who has joined sees the group's name, its members' usernames and avatars, and the habits and todos in it — including who each one is for and whether it has been done.

Only what is added to a group is shared. Your own habits and todos, and all of your notes, stay yours. Someone who is only invited sees the group's name and who invited them, nothing more. When you leave a group, or its owner removes you, you stop seeing it; when its owner deletes it, its habits and todos go for everyone.

Reminder emails

Crek only emails you if you turn on the daily reminder. It goes to the address on your Google account, at the time you pick, and only on days something is still open; it lists those habits, and how far along any with a goal are, and nothing else. It is sent through Resend.

Every reminder has a link to turn it off, and the mail app's own Unsubscribe button works too. If two weeks go by without a check-in, reminders pause on their own until you turn them back on.

Who else handles it

Only the services Crek runs on, each for its one job: Google (sign-in, and the Gemini API for voice and photo drafts), MongoDB (the database your data lives in), Cloudflare (hosting), Resend (reminder emails, if you turn them on), Google Analytics and PostHog (analytics). None of them is given your data to use for themselves by Crek.

Keeping and deleting

Your data is kept for as long as you have an account. A todo or note you delete disappears from Crek straight away; it is marked deleted rather than wiped at once, so a mistake can be undone.

To delete your account and everything in it, email creksupport@gmail.com from the address you sign in with. It will be done within 30 days, and you will get a reply when it is.

Children

Crek is not meant for children under 13, and does not knowingly keep accounts for them. If you believe a child has signed up, email and the account will be removed.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes too, and a significant change will be announced on the site before it applies.
